Project Highlight: Dissh Store, Armadale

On Melbourne’s iconic High Street, the newest Dissh boutique reflects the fashion label’s recent rebrand into the world of elevated basics and sophisticated minimalism. X-Bond Microcement flooring was installed by the Alternative Surfaces team (and it’s not the first Dissh store that X-Bond has featured in!).

Architect Brahman Perera has completely transformed an old, dilapidated dry cleaners into an experiential retail space that expresses a profound sense of warmth through an earthy palette and tactile richness.

Tying into the understated luxury that Dissh is now known for, the Armadale store is a balancing act of restraint and creativity, where simplicity meets the unexpected. The design plays with contrast; mixing sharp forms with curved shapes, hard materials with soft textures, and raw elements with the refined.

The Benefits of X-Bond Microcement for Retail Projects

Microcement is an excellent choice for retail projects due to its aesthetic appeal, durability, and versatility. A modern concrete alternative, it’s thinly applied to existing substrates for an easy way to renovate shop fit-outs. It’s particularly popular for seamless flooring, as it can withstand high foot traffic without scratching or staining, and is easy for commercial cleaning teams to maintain.

It’s been installed in large shopping centres and boutiques around Australia, to achieve a seamless finish that nails a modern, minimalist look — a common design brief for brands with a contemporary, high-end DNA such as Viktoria + Woods and Winning Appliances. The options are endless, from flooring and walls to facades, custom joinery pieces, and more.

Available in a variety of standard colours and textures, X-Bond can also be customised to create a bespoke solution that matches brand identity (like a unique signature orange for RM Williams).
