X-Bond for a seamless floor finish at Sussex by Mancini Made
It's always a pleasure working with Mancini Made and the Sussex Street project was no exception. Today, Anthony Mancini provides us an insight into the project brief of Sussex and the reasons why X-Bond was chosen as the floor finish throughout the entry, living, kitchen and dining spaces.
Could you please share an insight into the project brief for Sussex St?
Sussex Street is a timeless interpretation of a contemporary beachside dwelling designed for a growing family with two young toddlers. Reflecting its seaside location, this low-maintenance home makes a feature of sandy-textured exposed concrete, expanses of raw slatted timber and rustic landscaping.
The design challenge was to incorporate the family’s extensive brief in a single storey scale – accommodating high ceilings throughout, and allowing space for a rear play yard and a future pool. This led to a striking mix of sharp gable and flat roof forms, with a soaring double-height internal gable ceiling to showcase the north-facing living area.
An elongated white kitchen work bench dominates the open living space with soft-toned timber joinery extending wall to wall. The colour palette complements the light-filled area with neutral whites and floors of grey concrete. A feature wall of smooth-faced white brickwork defines the central fireplace and casual lounge space.
The street frontage displays sharply-defined contemporary proportions, combining sections of solid white render with a wall of vertical timber that seamlessly integrates a double garage.
An altogether stylish and timeless abode, yet with robust materials and finishes befitting the demands of a growing young family.
Why did you decide to specify X-Bond for the floors throughout the living area?
We have worked with Alternative Surfaces before and have always been great advocates of their products, on this occasion it suited the clients brief of having a a clean concrete look finish which would be highly trafficable and easy to clean. X-Bond was the perfect solution for the required application
Were you considering other materials for these areas?
Polished concrete was considered however we were looking for a low sheen/matte finish with less of a concrete look but more of a light/grey neutral tone. This colour was identified to work with the colour palette of the home.
Is the end result what you were hoping for?
Absolutely, our clients are both over the moon. As builders responsible for the design and build it’s a great sense of pride to know you have executed the clients brief.
